We also showcased our remotely driven car using Network as Code and MX Context worker safety, highlighting the real-world impact of Nokia's highly automated and programmable networks for customers worldwide. Our top takeways from MWC Barcelona 2025 are:

- Quiet confidence from the telecom industry that 5G is turning a corner and revenue is starting to grow as 5G SA deployments expand and 5G-Advanced capabilities start to come online.

- The application and monetization of AI began to feel real with telecommunications a leading proponent. Lots of real examples of how AI is being used in the network to provide greater efficiencies and agility, and lots of use cases how network as a service for AI is being offered to enterprises, especially SMEs

- The NTN (space sector) was at MWC Barcelona in force as a partner and collaborator. Lots of excitement on what NTN could offer in-terms of coverage, with acknowledgment for the need for strong collaboration to solve the challenges around capacity, cost, energy, integration/interoperability.

- MWC 25 clearly highlighted the broader intersection between wireless, wireline (fibre) and Data Centres. Lots of examples on the reality of converged network and compute landscape.

- AR glasses could be the next form factor disruptor like the iPhone and could even challenge the traditional eyewear market. Numerous light weight s on show that tether to your smartphone. They have an ease of adoption appeal, and a mass market already conditioned.

- Quantum. While AI was the main theme, quantum was quietly on show highlighting what a rapidly approaching Quantum+AI compute and networked world could look like. Not enough emphasis was maybe given to todays need for Post Quantum security.

The GSMA and the state of Qatar proudly announce an MWC Doha edition in November 2025. In a signing ceremony at MWC Barcelona with His Excellency Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammad Al Mannai, the Minister of Communications and Information Technology of Qatar and leaders from the GSMA presented the inaugural MWC25 Doha which will take place 25 – 26 November 2025 at the prestigious Doha Exhibition and Convention Center in Qatar. At MWC, O2 Telefónica in Germany announced that they have selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as the cloud provider for network workloads. As part of the multi-year agreement, following the successful deployment of its 5G SA Core on AWS in July last year, O2 Telefónica will expand the current 5G core implementation on AWS, deploying 5G core data plane in its data centers through the new AWS Outposts racks for high-throughput, network-intensive workloads. King Felipe Visits Telefónica Booth at MWC, Explores 5G and Open Gateway Innovations

His Majesty King Felipe visited the Telefónica stand on the morning of day one at MWC 2025, where he was received by Marc Murtra, Executive Chairman of the company; Carlos Ocaña, vice-chairman; and Ángel Vilà, COO. The delegation included Salvador Illa, President of the Generalitat of Catalonia; Óscar López, Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Service; David Quirós, Mayor of L'Hospitalet; Jaume Collboni, Mayor of Barcelona; and John Hoffman, CEO of GSMA, among others. During the visit, they were able to see some of the use cases presented by Telefónica based on 5G network and the advanced capabilities of Open Gateway, such as the planning and execution of safe and efficient flights, allowing risks to be anticipated and routes to be optimised in real time.
