Stulz to Release CyberRow In Row Cooling Units

Stulz announced it has begun manufacturing In Row server cooling units under the name "CyberRow".

Stulz, a German-headquartered company with 400 engineering, sales and manufacturing employees in the United States, will release the North American version of its CyberRow in row server cooling unit in the coming weeks. Stulz manufactures a wide range of cooling products: CRAC & CRAH units, Ultrasonic Humidification, Dehumidification units and Chillers.

Stulz CyberRow in row coolerStulz's entry into the in row cooling unit market means it will be joining the ranks of other industry giants: Liebert, APC and Rittal.

The Stulz CyberRow will come in a Chilled Water (CW) and Direct Expansion (DX) version. The CW version will be available in two widths: 12" and 24". The DX CyberRow will be available in a 12" version only.

No clones here

The first thing you notice about the Stulz CyberRow is its optional "side air discharge" feature, which directs the cold air sideways, directly across the face of the server cabinets, where it is easily pulled in by the servers' fans. Stulz claims this is a unique feature, that their competition only discharges the air straight out into the aisle. Stulz claims this uique side discharge option increases efficiency.

The Stulz CyberRow uses EC Plenum fans, offering highly efficient and variable speed airflow.

Another feature seen on the DX version is the use of a variable speed compressor made by Mitsubishi. The variable speed compressor is different from Copeland's digital scroll compressor in that the speed of the compressor itself is varied, which helps maintain flow rate. The variable speed compressor fond on the DX CyberRow allows the unit's output to be modulated based on changing load conditions. Capacity modulation in the Chilled Water units is accomplished using a 600 p.s.i. modulating control valve.

The Stulz CyberRow will have several design schemes. It is able to control fan speed, chilled water valve % open (or compressor speed in DX units) based on Return Air temperature, Supply Air temperature, and fans based on Static Pressure sensors.

It looks as cool as it feels

The CyberRow comes standard from the factory in Frederick, Maryland, with Stulz's charcoal grey color and a textured "orange peel" finish. There is an off-white color option as well, and Stulz says they would consider other colors if a customer requests it.

The new Stulz CyberRow in row cooling models are good fits for small and medium businesses, legacy data centers that need additional cooling in a localized pattern, and facilities with no raised floor to serve as a supply air plenum.

With a cooling capacity of up to 73kW, the Stulz CyberRow in row cooler is an efficient, scalable option for IT managers.

Good to see some more competition, because those In Row coolers get EXPENSIVE!

It is about time they did side discharge! i have been saying ever since I first became familiar with In Rows that a side discharge made sense! Push the air right where it needs to be instead of out in front...should have put a patent out...oh well, such is life!

I can't wait to see a price comparison, I think the other guys have hiked their price so unreasonably.

Any white papers yet?

We'll see if we can get our hands on a white paper or a manual. They are not officially released yet so the documentation on the CyberRow isn't available. However, our source at Stulz said they should be priced at a competitive price point.

How is this news? Stulz has made in row coolers for years!

Yes, Stulz has had the "CyberRow" in Europe for several years, but this is important for many IT facilities managers here in the United States because it opens up the market even more.

We have seen many of our visitors/members comment on how in row cooling is "expensive". Of course, "expensive" depends on many factors, but in my experience, there is a general consensus that it is expensive. Stulz CyberRow = More Competition. More Competition = Lower Price, Better Technology!

What is the largest capacity (kw) in row cooler in DX mode?

The Chilled Water (CW) Stulz CyberRow will be available in a 12" and 24" wide model, and the Direct Expansion (DX) will be available in a 12" only model. The performance gains seen in the 24" DX model were small; the 12" DX model represents the best of both worlds (footpring vs. capacity).

UPDATE: Capacity on the Stulz CyberRow DX is:

Air Cooled: 30.3 kW
Glycol: 29.7 kW
Water: 32.8

Total & Sensible cooling capacities are the same (Sensible Heat Ratio=1.0)

Server racks of the utmost premium quality can be equipped with multiple shelves, glide-mounted drawers, or keyboard shelves with ambidextrous mouse trays, etc.

Is the Stulz cyberrow available for Jamaica?
