Configure devices with Apple Configurator for Mac
Apple Configurator for Mac makes it easy to deploy iPhone, iPad and Apple TV devices in your organisation. Select a single device — or many at once — and then perform a Shortcut or action.
Apple Configurator for Mac is a free app, available from the App Store. You can use it to configure large numbers of devices connected to your Mac through USB (or connected wirelessly to an Apple TV). You can enrol devices, and buy content, with Apple Configurator, so you get the settings, apps and data you want for your students, employees or customers.
Automate Apple Configurator processes
If you want to write shell scripts and automate specific processes, you can install the Apple Configurator command-line tool cfgutil
. The command-line tool is then added to Apple Configurator, and a symbolic link is placed in /usr/local/bin/. After you install the command-line tool, see the cfgutil man page.
You can also use Shortcuts with Apple Configurator 2.18 or later to create workflows to uniformly and efficiently configure large numbers of iPhone and iPad devices. You can then automate shortcuts based on devices being attached, detached and more.

Activate devices without an internet connection
You can use Apple Configurator to activate iPhone, iPad and Apple TV devices that have no internet connection. To do this, when you’re setting up the devices, just make sure they’re connected to a host Mac that’s connected to the internet. Administrators can restore, activate and prepare devices with their necessary configuration including Apps, Profiles and Documents without ever needing to connect to either Wi-Fi or mobile data networks. This feature doesn’t allow an administrator to bypass any existing Activation Lock requirements normally required during non-tethered activation.
