Google Awards Malaysia Data Center Contract to GamudaGoogle Awards Malaysia Data Center Contract to Gamuda

(Bloomberg) -- Malaysian infrastructure firm Gamuda won a data center contract worth over $237 million from Google’s Malaysian affiliate, according to company filings.

Gamuda said it will also sell 389 acres of land in Malaysia’s Negeri Sembilan state to Pearl Computing Malaysia for about $107 million, on which the latter will build data centers. Pearl Computing is wholly owned by Raiden APAC, which is in turn owned by Google, according to company filings. 

The data center project will include construction of a water treatment plant with a capacity of 65 million liters and an off-river storage system.

Google previously said that it was investing $2 billion in Malaysia to develop data centers and a cloud facility in the Southeast Asian country. 

Last year, Pearl Computing signed a $1.3 billion build-and-lease deal for data centers in Malaysia with a unit of Kuala Lumpur-listed Sime Darby Property.
