The CAMARA open-source project, hosted by the Linux Foundation, has released its Spring 2025 meta-release, introducing 38 network APIs aimed at simplifying how application developers interact with telecom network capabilities. CableLabs, a key contributor to the initiative, continues to advance its Network as a Service (NaaS) vision by helping define standardized APIs that bridge the gap between service providers and application developers.
“Through this open-source approach, CAMARA aims to ultimately improve the performance of applications across all types of networks — a win for the entire industry,” wrote Ben Hepworth, Principal Architect at CableLabs, in a blog post announcing the release.
The Spring25 release includes 9 stable APIs, 13 new additions, and 16 updates. Among the highlights are support for Low Latency Low Loss Scalable Throughput (L4S) under Quality on Demand (QoD), expanded Edge Cloud and Network Access Management APIs, and the debut of a new Session Insights API. This feature provides real-time visibility into device behavior and network sessions, evolving from the previously titled “Quality by Design” effort. These developments aim to enable more responsive, performance-aware applications across fixed and mobile networks.
The CAMARA project is gaining momentum among network operators, software developers, and hardware vendors, offering a unified framework to expose network capabilities through open APIs. The next meta-release is planned for September 2025, following a development and testing cycle beginning in April. CableLabs is inviting its members and partners to join the NaaS working group to support continued progress in open networking.
